To ICE, or to HEAT, that is the question.

Hot or Cold, which is best?

Knowing whether to use an ice pack or a hot pack can be tricky when you’re in pain. As a general rule of thumb, cold is best used to treat inflammation and swelling while heat is better used for stiff joints or tight muscles.

Heat has been shown to increase circulation & allow blood flow to soothe discomfort, heal damaged tissue and increase muscle flexibility.

Ice and cold packs reduce blood flow to the treated areas and can significantly reduce swelling & inflammation.

If either or both treatments cause the discomfort or pain to worsen, then stop immediately and consult your doctor or physiotherapist for further medical and treatment advice.
