Dry Needling: What’s the point?
HOW DOES DRY NEEDLING WORK?
Dry Needling revolves around the theory of trigger points in muscles and how they lead to neuromuscular injuries and pain.
Studies have shown that needling deactivates the trigger point and works with the muscle to unwind and relax, mitigating the tightness and pain.
The advantages of dry needling include:
Release Tight Muscles
Increase Range of Motion
Lessen Pain
Advance Healing at Area of Injury
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
As the needles are embedded you might feel a slight pinprick, a few patients don't feel anything, others may feel slight discomfort, shivering, warmth, or gentle uneasiness.
For dry needling, assuming that the therapist is needling into a muscle trigger point, there is much of the time a 'jerk' reaction (the muscle hops), which is a decent sign the needle is in the impacted region.
Please do not hesitate to ask our practitioners who are trained to perform dry needling.
